Adrian Hanly

Adrian Hanly began playing euphonium in October 2002 at age 11 under Ger Condon. He joined Clonakilty Brass Band in November 2002 and was made Principal Euphonium of the band the following September, aged 12. He studied under Ger Condon until 2010 and completed Music Grade 8 in 2009 with a mark of 90. With Clonakilty Brass Band he won junior section on South of Ireland Band Championships in 2006, won section 4 of National Brass Band Championships in 2009 and  the band were awarded Junior Musicianship award in South of Ireland Band Championships the same year. They won intermediate section of South of Ireland Band Championships in 2011 where he performed a euphonium solo. He won the Adjudicator's award in senior section in 2012. He has played abroad in Waldaschaff, Germany in the summer of 2008. He played under the direction of Phil Harper in a band workshop in 2012, as well as Frank D├╝ppenbecker in 2008/9.

He is a regular solo performer with Clonakilty Brass Band and won best junior musicianship as an individual while playing with the band in 2009. He is the principal Euphonium with the Blarney Brass and Reed Band since 2004 and won the intermediate section of South of Ireland Band Championships in 2005. The also won the senior section in 2010 and 2011, as well as best brass of the competition in 2011. He joined the County Cork VEC Youth Orchestra in 2004, aged 14, and performed with the group until 2009, including performances in the National Concert Hall and a trip to Prague in 2007. He attended Summer Music on the Shannon music course from 2005-2008 and has played with South West Regional Youth Orchestra on a number of occasions. He was invited to perform with the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland in January 2012 in the Helix in Dublin and also performed with Royal Irish Academy of Music Wind Ensemble in summer 2011. He is the principal Euphonium with the Irish Youth Wind Ensemble since joining in the summer of 2006. He is currently the longest serving member still performing with the group.

He began a BMus degree course in the Cork School of Music in 2010. He is now entering the 3rd year of the degree course, specializing in performance under Tony Neal. He is the principal Euphonium of the Cork School of Music Wind Ensemble. He took up trombone in 2010 upon entering CSM. He joined the CSM Jazz Big Band in the winter of 2010 and travelled to Cologne in the summer of 2011. He continues to play trombone with the big band regular. He joined local gig/wedding band in summer of 2012 on trombone. He performed with CSM Project Orchestra in 2012, playing both trombone and euphonium. He was commended in his first time participating in the Senior Recital Competition in Cork School of Music this year.

He has performed with top players such as Mark O' Keeffe, John Wallace, Gary Curtin, David Thornton, Kenneth Edge, Martin Johnson and James Dunne. In September 2011 he began to tutor the junior members of the Clonakilty Brass Band. Following college he plans on becoming an instrumental teacher, giving lessons in brass. He also hopes to spend some time abroad, preferably in England, and gain some experience playing with some of the top brass bands and players.
